AWARENESS OF AIR POLLUTION

INTRODUCTION

The concept of conscientization is the process developing a critical awareness of one’s social reality through reflection and action. The concept conscientization is linked with the work of Paulo faire and especially his pedagogy of the oppressed. The definition given by Paulo faire in his cultural action for freedom is that conscientization refers to the process in which men are not mare receipients,but as knowing subjects achieve a depending awareness both of the socio cultural reality which shapes their lives and of their capacity to transform that reality. Conscientization mean to give conscious awareness to people on certain issue that need urgent improvement. The objective of consciousness is to power the knowledge by facilitating a learning process that would develop critical awareness to that, individual can take action against the oppressive demand .

Air pollution occurs when gases ,dust particles ,fumes(or smoke) or odor are introduced into the atmosphere in a way that makes it harmful to humans ,animals and plant. Air pollution Threatens the health of humans and other living being in our cancer and respiratory diseases ,reduces the ozone layer atmosphere and contributes to global warming . In this industrial age, air pollution cannot be eliminated completely ,but steps can be taken to reduce it.The government has developed and continues to develop , guidelines for air quality and ordinances to restrict emission in an effort to control air pollution. On an individual level ,we can reduce our contribution to the pollution problem by carpooling or using public transportation. Additionally, buying energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances or otherwise reducing our electricity use will reduce the pollutants released in the production of electricity ,which creates the majority of industrial air pollution.

                 The conscientization program was conducted for the High school students of St. Joseph’s convent school, through online class. The awareness class was provide to the students based on the generating consciousness in them about the awareness of air pollution.

OBJECTIVES

     * To develop critical consciousness regarding the awareness of air pollution .

     * To make the students understand about the national and local air pollution control centers or offices .

      *To obtain meaning interpretations of the results of fixed air pollution monitoring stations .

      *Share a vision to accelerate the shift to a low carbon society.

      *In order to resolve the urgent issues of air pollution and other pollution problems in developing

        Countries.

PROCEDURE

As a part of our B Ed curriculum, the student teacher has to conduct a conscientization program during our school internship program. I conducted a concentration program on air pollution on December 2nd 2020.

The beginning of a section I ask some of my students about their knowledge on the impact of air pollution in a society. Students answered very well. Then I gave a short introduction on the objectives of our program. To create awareness on the impact on air pollution I explained in detail about the dangerous chemical gases that go up in the air due to humans activities. I presented a chart including all the necessity activities that we should perform to make sure that our air is not polluted. Later I presented two videos on the effects of air pollution and importance of avoiding air pollution. After the awareness class and the presentation of the video ,the students were asked to express their opinion regarding the class and to tell what they received after hearing about the awareness they received after hearing the class and seeing the video .

IMPACT OF THE PROGRAMME

It was a wonderful experience with the pupils. They gave positive feedback regarding the presentation. The program was 100% success because the students understood the negative impact of air pollution and the activities of humans towards our atmosphere the students responded very well and they gave in a contribution from their part.

CONCLUSION

I selected this topic for our conscientization program because it is very relevant to our present situation. Pollution is a major problem faced by this generation. Every student should be aware about the waste management and also understand its importance. I think that the program gives a good motivation to the students and they were very cooperative.
